Science

At Carterhatch Infant School it is our aim to deliver science through real-life contexts in which children question, investigate, observe, collect and interpret their findings in meaningful ways. The heart of our child-centered curriculum is children’s natural curiosity and desire to learn. From the offset, our young scientists have the opportunity to explore and enquire about the world around them. Children are not only taught the knowledge that the curriculum requires, but the skills to become independent lifelong learners.

Wherever possible, we make use of the outside environment. The hands on experiences our children have are purposeful and relevant. We have extensive outdoor space where children can learn about habitats, plants, animals and seasons. Each year group has its own growing area where children help to tend to the garden and learn more about the plants and animals that live there. We currently also have chickens which the children get a chance to look after in Year One.
